Abstract :
BACKGROUND: Accurate appropriate assessment of obesity in adolescents is a critical aspect of contemporary medical care. Body mass index (BMI), waist to hip ratio (WHR) and fat % are the important indicator to investigate the obesity of an individual and to find out the risk factors for cardiovascular diseases. AIM: The objective of the study was to find a possible association between obesity Indicators and blood pressure of college girls. METHODOLOGY: The study was conducted on 60 college girls, and age ranged from 20 to 25 years who were randomly selected from the different departments of Guru Ghasidas University, Bilaspur (C.G). Selected variables for the study were body mass index (BMI), waist hip ratio (WHR), Fat Mass (Fat in kg), and systolic & diastolic blood pressure. The statistical technique, descriptive statistics and the Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation were used, the data analyzed with the help of SPSS (16.0 version) software and the level of significance was set at 0.05 level of confidence. RESULT: There exists a significant relationship between SBP and Weight (r = 0.621, p< 0.05), BMI (r = 0.586, p< 0.05), WHR (r = 0.551, p< 0.05), Fat% (r = 0.377, p< 0.05), other hand DBP have also significant relationship with Weight (r = 0.512, p< 0.05), BMI (r = 0.535, p< 0.05), WHR (r = 0.569, p< 0.05), Fat% (r = 0.402, p< 0.05).
