Article Name : | | EFFECT OF PLYOMETRIC TRAINING PROGRAM ON ANTHROPOMETRIC AND BIOCHEMICAL VARIABLES OF UNIVERSITY HANDBALL PLAYERS | Author Name : | | HARBANS LAL GODARA AND CHITRA BISHNOI | Publisher : | | Ashok Yakkaldevi | Article Series No. : | | ISRJ-94 | Article URL : | | | Author Profile | Abstract : | | The purpose of this study was effect of composed plyometric training program on anthropometric and biochemical variables of university Handball players was aimed in their usual training period. The plyometric training program was applied during 16 week period. A total of 10 male Handball players regularly playing competitive Handball volunteered for this study. All subjects participated in following tests: standing long jump, depth leap long jump, medicine ball throws up in 10 seconds; medicine ball overhead throws forward against the wall in 10 seconds, maximal vertical jumps to the maximal height in 10 seconds, maximal vertical jump height. Selected variables were measured at zero level (baseline data, BD) and at the end of training A significant increase (P<0.05) in back and grip strength, serum urea and high density lipoprotein-cholesterol (HDL-C) was observed after training. On the other hand, a significant decrease (P<0.05) in body fat, haemoglobin, triglyceride and low density lipoprotein-cholesterol (LDL-C) was noted after the conclusion of training. However, no significant change was reported in lean body mass (LBM), uric acid and total cholesterol level of the players following the training. The training programme is effective for improving selected anthropometric and biochemical parameters for handball. | Keywords : | | - body fat
